Professional Development

ASIAL operates a continuing professional development (CPD) program for licence holders in Victoria as required under the Private Security Act 2004, Section 26 (3). 

Members of the ASIAL Individual Professional Recognition program are also required to participate in continuing professional development.

ASIAL operates 2 CPD programs for members. Points are accumulated in the same way, however, the term of the program differs:

The continuing professional development (CPD) program for licence holders in Victoria is required under the Private Security Act 2004, Section 26 (3). Members with a licence condition must nominate a representative to undertake activities to accrue 12 points over the course of each financial year. More can be found on the VIC Police website about the CPD requirements and our obligations as an Approved Security Industry Organisation in Victoria.
Members of the ASIAL Individual Professional Recognition program are also required to participate in continuing professional development. They must accrue 12 points over each year of their membership in order to be eligible to renew.

ASIAL’s CPD program is composed of the following elements –

1. NUMBER OF POINTS TO BE COMPLETED
A nominee with a licence or membership condition requiring Continuing Professional Development must complete 12 points of professional development annually.

2. TYPES OF CPD TO BE COMPLETED
Continuing Professional Development must consist of any combination of at least two of the following:

• Professional Activities, e.g. Annual ASIAL Conference, ASIAL Industry Breakfast Briefings, subscriptions, presentations etc.
• An activity with a stated development outcome, e.g. Online learning, webinars, workshops etc.
• A learning activity conducted by an RTO and included formal assessment, e.g. Units of competency aligned to CPP training package.

NOTE: Points must be counted from at least 2 of the above categories to meet your CPD requirements

• Webinars: FREE to members. Access a recording here (2 pts per Webinar, max. 6 pts)
• Podcasts: We have a range of Podcasts available. Download or subscribe here (2 pts per Podcast, max. 6 pts)
• Attend an ASIAL Industry Briefing (3 pts) or Awards for Excellence (3 pts)
• Attend the Security Expo and Conference (2pts for the Expo, 9pts for the Conference)
• Read Security Insider Magazine, or subscribe to an industry journal (3 pts per annum per subscription)
• Take an ASIAL eLearning Course online (1 point per course, each course takes approximately 30 mins to complete.)
