Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is a commitment to ongoing learning to improve the knowledge of licensed security practitioners.

While CPD is a useful tool for any security industry professional, Victoria is currently the only State where it is a requirement for certain segments of the security industry. CPD in Victoria applies only to the manpower sector – ie. bodyguards, crowd controllers and security guards (including cash-in-transit and airport screening).

The key elements of ASIAL’s approach to CPD are:

• participants must attain 12 CPD points per year
• the CPD year is 1st July – 30th June
• there are 3 categories of CPD activity:
- professional activities
- activities with a stated development outcome
and
- formal training courses.
