Individual Achievement Award


After 19 years of dedicated service within the NSW Police, Michael has followed that with 12 years of Aviation industry commitment. Michael is recognised for excellence within the security industry including exemplary customer, community and outstanding acts. Also qualified by education in holding a Graduate Diploma in Criminology and a Bachelors of Social Science and Law, Michael is a member of the Airbus Aircraft User Security Panel, assisting in developing security measures in aircraft design including the Airbus A380. Michael was part of the Qantas response team for the Sari Club bombing in Bali and the Maldives/Colombo Boxing Day Tsunami. In his daily role at Qantas, Michael is responsible for the protection of critical infrastructure including Airport facilities, Aircraft, Terminal buildings, Freight and Catering facilities. Being a respected security professional with a reputation of absolute integrity, Michael is an asset to the security industry.

Honourable Mention



Presented to William (Willy) Autufuga – Toll IPEC, Toll Transport Group

As the Toll IPEC Senior Security Supervisor at Toll Business Park Altona, Willy is charged with the management of 16 full time permanent security officers in the implementation and enforcement of proactive security strategies and risk mitigation measures for the protection of over 1 billion dollars of capital assets including high value products and freight. With over 1000 vehicle movements per day for the site, Willy leads his team as the front line customer relation representatives with professionalism, dedication and a genuine desire to strive for excellence. Willy’s responsibilities also includes vehicle and bag inspections, freight and load inspections, manifest reconciliations, site and vehicle locking systems, driver/staff interviews, security awareness and site safety programmes.

Security Manager Award


After more than 35 years in Security and Facilities Management, Alan retains his enthusiasm in managing the security for the multi campuses of Kangan Institute providing services for over 40,000 students and staff. Alan is recognised as the driving force behind Kangan Institute’s vision in providing a safe and secure environment and contribute to the communities they serve. Championing the cause for the introduction of CCTV into the many campuses of Kangan Institute, including 130 cameras at the Institute’s Automotive Centre of Excellence in the Docklands, Alan was requested to present to the law reform commission regarding surveillance in public places. Alan is an advocate for relationship building and actively communicates with other institutes, Government and Police.

In-House Security Team Award


The Australian Jockey Club Security at Royal Randwick and Warwick Farm demonstrated collective excellence in the delivery of their security strategy for their organisation. A dedicated internal security department was established in 2007 and following a complete assessment of the Clubs security, a phased roll out commenced to rectify organisational shortfalls in incident and emergency management preparedness, physical and electronic security and race day and major event crowd management. Initiatives undertaken by the team include an asset protection team, responsible service of alcohol monitors and mounted security. In 2009 live feed from over 170 CCTV cameras was provided to offsite Police and Office of Liquor, Gaming and Racing staff. Security numbers are supplemented on Race and major event days by trained ACES contract security staff supervised and managed by AJC Security.

Training Award


British American Tobacco Australia (BATA) demonstrated innovation and excellence in the management and delivery of their in-house training program to a predominantly contracted security workforce from SNP Security. Their training program, training modules and processes are embedded within the security regime following significant investment by BATA in their training development and delivery. Training and performance outcomes are enhanced by the demonstrated personal commitment of each security team member in support of the organisational goals which has also ensured a stable workforce. Training extends beyond the security workplace into external Certificate study, attendance at topic-specific conferences, training workshops and internally led brainstorming and team-bonding sessions, all with organisational support.

Integrated Security Solution Award


The integrated security solution award to Pacom Systems for the Royal Darwin Hospital (RDH) project recognises the complexity of system integration, planning and the management of all stakeholders which was professionally addressed by the system integrator Security & Technology Services (STS). The selection of the Pacom System met the integration requirements of the Royal Darwin Hospital for access control, alarm monitoring, CCTV, Fire Systems, Network management and a communication platform that interfaced with other sub-systems including Human Resources and Visitor Management. The installation provides RDH with a system offering safety, reliability, scalability and significant future proofing.

Honourable Mention



Presented to SECUREcorp Safe City Mobile CCTV Patrols – City of Melbourne

An honourable mention is awarded to SECUREcorp for their initiative in delivering a security solution to the City of Melbourne with the introduction of the SECUREcorp Safe City Mobile 360 degree CCTV Patrol Vehicles. A tight 30 day delivery timeline presented SECUREcorp with many challenges including equipment selection, staff training, privacy issues and integration of technology. Since the introduction of the patrol vehicles the project has received praise by the City of Melbourne, Police, Businesses and the Public. Having responded to hundreds of calls, travelled 12,000 kilometres, assisted with over 40 arrests, the project is achieving the desired outcome of presenting a safer City of Melbourne. During the period of review Police confirm a crime reduction in City of Melbourne CBD of 20 percent. An outcome to be proud of.
