Major Security Installation (joint winners)

City of Sydney
Security and Emergency Management Operations Centre

The City of Sydney has a network of 82 CCTV cameras installed across Sydney CBD. These are linked by coax tails to an extensive fibre LAN with analogue video streams arriving at Sydney’s control room via fibre patch panels.
In addition, the City has over 100 CCTV cameras installed in and around Council properties, as well as access control and alarm systems that are also monitored by the control room.
The control room is also the City’s emergency management centre, designed to function as a central control point and information centre in the event of a major incident.
The control room and data centre project was designed to bring together the City’s security and emergency management functions, and involved the construction of a new operations and data centre, and the upgrade of CCTV, communications, and access control systems.
The project commenced in September 2007 and was completed within 3 months, with operations commencing in mid-December 2007. The data centre and control were certified C1 compliant in June 2008.

Australian Security Fencing
High Security Barrier Fencing – Headquarters Joint Operations Command, Australian Defence Force

The Headquarters of the Defence Force Joint Operations Command covers approximately 100 acres of natural bush. The facility will accommodate 750 defence personnel.
The architectural planning required two individual high security fence lines around the main compound. The first fence line formed a 100 metre circle around the compound, with the second fence line to be 500 metres from the compound centre.
The final innovative design included a buttressed concrete continuous and ram barrier with high security steel panels running along the top of the concrete.
The installation required a clean flat external vertical surface to the fence line to prevent scaling and climbing attempts. This involved individually manufactured steel fence posts, each of which required its own detailed measurements.
The very sensitive and covert nature of the installation demanded the highest level of protection for the personnel and military equipment housed inside the centre.
While the perimeter fencing is only part of the centre’s protection, it is an integral part and Australian Security Fencing are acknowledged for their contribution to securing this vital piece of military infrastructure.

The award for outstanding training initiative is presented to Tactical Training for the innovative training scheme that supported up to 1,000 retrenched Mitsubishi workers in re-entering employment following the closure of the Mitsubishi Motors factory in Adelaide.
The collaborative industry approach provided positive media exposure for the security industry and demonstrated an outstanding level of excellence.
The training initiative guaranteed employment, provided outcomes to address skills shortages experienced by major employer groups within the industry. To date over 150 retrenched workers have been successfully employed within the security industry.
